Duties

DUTIES
Provides support to senior chemists in the testing of equine body fluids for drugs and metabolites in a forensic or regulatory environment using direct liquid extraction (DLE) and, in the development and validation of methods for analysis of drugs and metabolites in body fluids;

Operates and maintains equipment used in analytical chemistry/analytical toxicology including:
-high performance liquid chromatographs (HPLC) with mass spectrometers (HPLC/MS);

Prepares reagents and mobile phases for HPLC analysis;

Compiles data and prepares detailed reports.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position, such as biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacology or forensic toxicology.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Recent experience* in the operation of high performance liquid chromatographs (HPLC) interfaced with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS-MS).
Experience in developing and validating analytical methods.
Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited chemistry laboratory.

*Recent experience is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of safety practices in laboratory.
Knowledge of the theories and principles of analytical chemistry, as applied to analysis of drugs and metabolites in body fluids.
Knowledge of the principles of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Knowledge of analytical method development and validation techniques and practices.
