Work environment

The Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

1 Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Degree equivalency

Ex1 - Experience in receiving and responding to enquiries or complaints.
Ex2 - Experience obtained within the last five years in the provision of administrative support services including two of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, filing, and processing mail.
Ex3 - Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.
Ex4 - Experience in using computer applications including two of the following: databases, email, spreadsheets, and word processing.

Successful completion of secondary school education.

Degree equivalency

AEx1 - Experience working in a law enforcement environment.
AEx2 - Experience working with Aboriginal communities.
AEx3 - Training and/or experience in providing financial support services such as the collection and recording of monies received, handling petty cash funds, verifying supplier invoices.

OR1 - Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
OR2 - Willingness and ability to work shift work.
OR3 - Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
OR4 - Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s licence or have personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's licence.
OR5 - Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation.
