Facilitation and/or delivery of various interventions and activities for women offenders with mental health needs.

Work environment

Organization: The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Mission Statement: The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Challenge: Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where ongoing contact with federally sentenced inmates will be necessary.

EDUCATION:
Completion of a two year post-secondary diploma with specialization in one of the following areas: social work, behavioural science technology, social services work, mental health, addictions, psycho education; or in a field related to the duties of the position.
OR
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience intervening with women* in crisis
Experience working with people who experience mental health issues and/or problematic behaviours
* The term “women” includes those who identify as women, as well as people who are non-binary

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience working with women* with mental health needs
Experience working with Indigenous women* or women* from other ethonocultural groups
Experience in offering treatment to clients using the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
Experience in the application of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based treatments
Experience working in a psychiatric or mental health facility
Experience working with women* offenders in a correctional environment (institutional or community)
Experience working with individuals who are at risk for self-injurious or suicidal behavior
