Duties

Maintenance and further development of the IrriCAN online decision support tool (www.irrican.com). Meeting with supervisor on improvements and development of training material.

The student will be conducting computer programming tasks that can be done remotely.

Work environment

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) provides information, research and technology, and policies and programs to achieve security of the food system, health of environment and innovation for growth.

The work will be located at an AAFC research facility or can be completed remotely depending on the location of the successful candidate. If the candidate’s physical presence is required at an AAFC Research Center, the candidate must be able to commute to the location closest to them.

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a Master’s program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: Computer Science.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in computer programming.

* In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience and volunteer activities.

Knowledge:
Working knowledge of computer programming skills including familiarity with website creation, database management, integration of API’s and working with the Google App Engine.

Examples include:
- Front end: Razor ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, jquery.
-Database: MySQL.
-Backend: C# .NET Core for website Nodejs – Express (Javascript) for satellite data handling.
-APIs: Google Earth Engine API, Weather API, Sendgrid API.
-Hosting: Azure App Service, Google App Engine Serverless.
