Duties

Manages the Central Experimental Farm labor pool which supports a wide array of agricultural research activities. Work supported ranges from managing crop rotations including tillage, weed and pest control, and harvesting in conjunction with research programs and other stakeholders. Supporting individual research programs with activities ranging from collecting data on small samples to operating large equipment over large areas, including agricultural fields, facilities and grounds. He/she is responsible for planning and implementing services, managing and maintaining seed, fertilizer and herbicide inventory, maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, as well as allocating and coordinating work activities with scientific and other personnel.

Degree equivalency

Experience
Experience supervising staff in a production agriculture or agricultural research environment.
Experience planning and accomplishing planting and harvesting operations in a production agriculture or agricultural research environment.
Experience in the use of e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications.
Experience in pest management and disease control in an agricultural environment.

Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Farm Management, agriculture or related field.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the purchasing and procurement of farm and agriculture supplies.

Experience in data collection and data entry related to fields operations such as the ArcGIS suite of programs.
Experience on how to prioritize, organize, and plan your work in an agriculture environment.

Ability and willingness to obtain/take the following certifications and/or trainings: Ontario Pesticide Grower’s Safety Certification, transportation of dangerous goods, aerial lift and fall arrest, forklift, welding, other classification Driver’s License.
