Work environment

The RCMP requires experienced Marine Technical Specialists with proven ability to work with a wide range of commercial vessels in technical and mechanical capacities. This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers. Successful candidates in this position will be expected to travel and perform duties in a range of environments both in outdoor and indoor settings. Intent of the process

Anticipatory.
The anticipated intent/result of this process is to indeterminately staff (on a full time basis) one position.
A qualified pool will be established and may be used for future permanent or temporary vacancies (including term, acting, or assignment).
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
o A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
o An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Positions require the certification from a recognized technical institute in the area of Marine Technical Trades Qualifications, which would include but not limited to Marine Technician, Shipwright, or Marine Engineer mechanical engineering or an equivalent or a combination of training and experience, relative to the position. Equivalent military training at the DP3 level will be accepted.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
A total of two (2) or more years of experience in a position performing the following for marine vessels:
• Developing technical documentation required for the acquisition of vessels such as technical or performance specifications, statements of work.
• Researching or compiling information for the preparation of technical reports related to vessels.
• Providing technical support services for vessels including analyzing issues, assessing impacts and developing options or solutions.

• Marine Surveyor

Experience:

• Computer Aided Design (CAD) platforms
• Preparing maintenance instructions
• Spare parts provisioning
• Testing and/or performance measurement
• Failure and accident investigation and/or component failure

Depending on the requirements of the position(s) being staffed from this process, for current or future vacancies, any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may be applied at the time of staffing. Candidates may be contacted and assessed against these criteria at any time during this process.

Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Please note that within the context of this selection process, travel costs/expenses will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for travel costs.

If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool. If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers.

This process and the resulting pool will only be used to staff positions in the RCMP.

Any information provided by a candidate through their application or assessment that is deemed to be incorrect or fraudulent will be eliminated from further consideration.

Experience qualifications will be assessed upon application. Further confirmation or assessment may be conducted through reference checks.

All information obtained throughout the selection process, from time of application to close of process, may be used to evaluate candidates.
