Duties

Molecular biology (e.g., DNA and RNA extraction).
Rearing of plants in a greenhouse.
Sample collection.
Bioinformatics related to the assembly and annotation of a reference genome sequence.

Work environment

The candidate is required to be eligible or be enrolled as a Master’s student in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan under the supervision of Dr. Bill Biligetu. The candidate will spend one year at the University of Saskatchewan, and will also conduct lab, greenhouse and bioinformatics work at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre under the joint supervision of Drs. Biligetu, Raja Ragupathy and Stacy Singer (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a MSc program at the University of Saskatchewan, in the Department of Plant Sciences with a specialization in plant bioinformatics.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* with next generation sequencing and bioinformatics.
Experience* with the rearing of plants in a greenhouse.
Experience* with plant molecular biology.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Ability and willingness to pursue courses in person for one year at the University of Saskatchewan (this could change if COVID restrictions are in place).
