Our Current Work Environment:

• The Department of Finance Canada has transitioned to a hybrid workplace requiring employees to work some of the time in the office (aim is for on-site work 50% of the time). Education:
Candidates must have or be working on a Ph.D. in Economics from a recognized university. Candidates who have not yet completed their degree must have passed their comprehensive exams (micro, macro, and econometrics) and will defend their thesis by the end of December 2023.
Candidates must have done doctoral or post-doctoral research in one of the following fields:
• Macroeconomics/Macroeconometrics
• Public finance
• Economics of innovation, research and development.
• Environmental economics
• Financial markets
Experience:
Candidates must have recent (acquired within the last 3 years) experience researching, at the Ph.D. level, one or more areas relevant for current research at the Department of Finance. The policy research currently being done at the Department of Finance Canada includes a number of economic issues, including economic growth, productivity, macroeconomics, international trade, environmental economics, financial markets, monetary economics, innovation/digitization and public finance/taxation.

The Department of Finance Canada Economics and Social Science Services Development Program is a competency-based career development and progression program designed for the Economics and Social Science Services (EC) community within the eight policy branches of the Department of Finance Canada. The program aims to develop high-calibre individuals to the target level of EC-06 Advisor/Economist (salary range: $100,121 to $116,116) within three to five years. Progression through successive EC levels up to the target level is based on a combination of performance evaluation and merit assessment established for the Economist and Policy Analyst program stream.
