Duties

Under the supervision of a research scientist, the student will conduct scientific experiments and other laboratory work, analyze data, write reports and manuscripts, and write a thesis including scientific research background, methodology, results obtained and discussion.

Work environment

The lab is located in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, London Research and Development Centre, London, Ontario. The incumbent will be working with a plant molecular biology/genetics team on projects aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms underlining growth and plant development as well as plant responses to environment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Currently enrolled or willing to enroll in a PhD program at Western University with specialization in plant biology.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience in plant biology (examples include: gene cloning, vector construction and modification, genetic transformation, crossing of Arabidopsis plants, genetic transformation of soybean; yeast one hybrid (Y1H), yeast two hybrid (Y2H), isolation and transfection of Arabidopsis protoplast, bimolecular florescent complementation (BiFC), subcellular localization; qRT-PCR; RNA Interference system; CRISPR-Cas9-mediated mutagenesis).

* In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience and volunteer activities.
