Managing all aspects of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) maritime search and rescue (SAR) coordination services including :
• Operational planning, establishment of priorities, multi-party liaison and negotiation, and coordination of multi-disciplinary participation.
• Managing the CCG operations within a 24/7 operational center and its financial, human and material resources.
• Planning, prioritizing, coordinating, monitoring, controlling and reviewing SAR operations within regional areas of responsibility.
• Directs the coordination of multiple agencies participation and delegated personnel involved in SAR activities and initiatives and provides expert maritime advice.
• Ensuring communication networks meet SAR operational requirements.
• Developing, implementing and evaluating operational plans to ensure effective coverage by vessels, aircraft and personnel, and developing contingency plans for major marine disasters respecting passenger vessels, the offshore oil and gas industry and other high risk clients.
• Participating in the development and implementation of programs, exercises, initiatives and MOU's to achieve international and regional coordination and cooperation between the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) or MRSC, stakeholders and partners.
• Providing input to the development of regional program delivery strategies, business continuity plans and national standards, guidelines and policies
The current requirement is for one year with the possibility of an extension. Position is located at the Québec city Marine Rescue Center (MRSC-Q).
A pool will be established through this process to staff similar positions in the Canadian Coast Guard. These positions may be of different tenures, with various language requirements and various security requirements.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Watchkeeping Mate certificate OR Watchkeeping Mate, Near coastal certificate of Competency approved under SCTW 95 and issued under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 Marine Personal Regulations SOR/2007-115 (or equivalent*).
*If you hold a valid Watchkeeping Mate Certificate from a foreign institution or from the Royal Canadian Navy, please refer to the Transport Canada Regulations for equivalency information at the following link: https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/mpsp-training-examination-certification-faq-1052.htm#t1.
EXPERIENCE
12 months of experience:
-at sea as a deck officer in charge of the watch
OR
-Supervising a team in charge of an operational program or participating in a project related to the operations of the maritime search and rescue program
OR
-As a Marine Rescue Coordinator or Deputy Coordinator in a Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) or Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC).

-Must be able to return to the rescue center within a reasonable time frame;
-Wearing the Coast Guard uniform in the workplace, in accordance with the Canadian Coast Guard Uniform Wear Directive;
-Requirement to assume stand-by periods and to report for work outside normal working hours and work overtime;
-Possibility of traveling by different modes of transport such as a ship / FRC, train, plane and helicopter;
-Possibility to do shift work 24/7 (although not normally required from the manager, it may become necessary in certain circumstances);
-For an indeterminate appointment, the candidate must have passed the following training and certification on the job within an appropriate period not exceeding 24 months following his/her appointment:
A. Maritime Search Planning Course (MSP)
B. Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course (SMC)
C. SAR Mobile Facilities/On-scene coordinator Course (SMF/OSC);
D. Local check-out as SAR Coordinator at MRSC Quebec.
