The successful candidate will participate in multidisciplinary projects related to various aspects of meat quality and meat co-product value-adding. Responsibilities will include working in research and commercial abattoirs and meat processing plants where handling raw meat from different species (e.g. beef, pork, etc.) will be part of the operational requirements. The individual may be asked to work on weekends from time to time, and early mornings once or twice a week. Part of the responsibilities will include method development, sample collection and storage, database management, writing data summary reports, and contributing to the preparation of research reports. Furthermore, the individual will be responsible for a dedicated lab space and equipment, sometimes working independently and alone on projects. The successful candidate may be working in coordination with several other research teams, and will be required to maintain efficient and professional communication with co-workers, and service and sales representatives.

B. Sc. Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Food Science, Meat Science, Chemistry, Natural Sciences or a field related to the duties of the position OR acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience providing technical support in a laboratory environment (i.e. chemistry lab, food quality lab or related field).
Experience in analytical food chemistry techniques.
Experience operating and maintaining chromatography equipment (i.e. Gas Chromatography (GC) or High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)).
Master’s or doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Food Science, Meat Science, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, or related field.
Experience working in a meat research environment.
Experience using statistical software (e.g. SAS, R, etc).
Experience in database management (e.g. Access).
