Duties

Here is an overview of the tasks performed by this position :
• Preparing land for research trials
• Operation of tractors greater than 150hp
• Seeding, spraying and harvest operations
• Transportation of equipment between locations
• Supervising seasonal staff
• Planning crop rotations and inputs with staff
• Collecting plant and soil samples for analysis
• Field maintenance
• Roadway maintenance support
• Additional duties can be assigned by the supervisor to meet the needs of the Research farm operations.

Intent of the process

There is currently a need to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position.

A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Education:
• Secondary School Diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and or/experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience operating grounds equipment such as mowers.
• Experience in the operation of commercial agricultural equipment (tractors greater than 150 hp)
• Experience operating commercial high clearance sprayers, swathers and combines.
• Experience operating grain augers and grain trucks.

Reliability Status security clearance

• Possession of a valid, class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
• Ability and willingness to work in varying weather conditions.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on occasion and possibly on short notice including weekends.
• Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work, including moderate to heavy manual labor requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 25 kg).
• Ability and willingness to work in harsh environments (outdoors, cold, hot, dust, and noise).
• Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and this must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
• Ability and willingness to work on varied terrain and with various commercial agricultural equipment.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License issued by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture within eighteen months of appointment.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a Forklift Operator’s Licensed issued by a provincially certified agency.
