This hybrid work arrangement will maintain the flexibility and productivity gained through remote work, while maintaining our culture and making the most of the benefits of working together in the office.
• In exceptional circumstances, the Department of Finance Canada may approve temporary full-time telework arrangements requests for new recruits who may wish to defer relocation to the National Capital Region*.
*The National Capital Region, also referred to as Canada's Capital Region, is an official federal designation for the Canadian capital of Ottawa, Ontario, the neighbouring city of Gatineau, Quebec, and surrounding urban and rural communities.
Master’s graduates hired under the Economist and Policy Analyst stream are involved in all aspects of the Department's work. • Economic Development
• Economic Policy Branch
• Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch
• Financial Sector Policy Branch
• Fiscal Policy Branch
• International Trade and Finance Branch
• Tax Policy Branch
As a recruit, you will have unparalleled opportunities to work on challenging issues and influence important public policy decisions, including:
• Economic and fiscal forecasting;
• The federal budget;

• Federal health and social transfers to the provinces and territories;
• Personal income, business income and excise tax policy;
• Social programs like the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and Employment Insurance;

The Department of Finance Canada Economics and Social Science Services Development Program is a competency-based career development and progression program designed for the Economics and Social Science Services (EC) community within the eight policy branches of the Department of Finance Canada. The program aims to develop high-calibre individuals to the target level of EC-06 Advisor/Economist (salary range: $100,121 to $116,116) within three to five years. Progression through successive EC levels up to the target level is based on a combination of performance evaluation and merit assessment established for the Economist and Policy Analyst program stream.
