Assessment accommodation

In alignment with the APEP in support of strategically increasing Aboriginal representation in areas having the most impact on program delivery and health outcomes of First Nations Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) target population, selection may be limited to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal peoples.

Work environment

Children’s Oral Health Initiative Program (COHI) provides preventative dental services to children in First Nations communities, which includes services such as oral health screening, fluoride varnish, sealants and oral health promotion. During this time of COVID-19 the COHI Team may be required to contribute to the health and wellness of First Nations people by providing COVID testing, contract tracing and data entry.

Intent of the process

The intent is to staff this position via the Aboriginal Peoples Employment Program, which aims to strategically increase Indigenous representation within the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. As such, Organizational Needs may / will be applied and first consideration may / will be given to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Indigenous peoples.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level in the Alberta Region within Indigenous Services Canada.

Education:
Dental Therapist: Diploma of Dental Therapy or Certification from the National School of Dental Therapy.

OR

Dental Hygienist: Successful completion of a dental hygiene program recognized by the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
Dental Hygienist only: Valid Practice Permit from the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta – OR – Eligibility for registration as a Dental Hygienist with the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta.

Experience:
Experience working as a Dental Therapist or Dental Hygienist.

Graduation with a master's degree in Public Health.
Diploma/Certificates in Health Promotion.

Experience:
Experience implementing Health Promotion programs/activities.
Experience working in Indigenous communities or with Indigenous populations.

Ability to speak a First Nations language spoken in Canada.

Dental Hygienist only: Maintaining registration and licensure with the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta.
