Assessment accommodation

Duties

Provision of operational services related to welding, machining, cutting, designing and fabricating structures and components in support of the programs and initiatives of Fisheries and Oceans Canada/of the Canadian Coast Guard (DFO/CCG);

Design, weld, machine, cut and fabricate different structures and different devices or components under pressure made of steel, stainless steel, aluminium and thermoplastics;

Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and written instructions concerning the restoration, construction, alteration or repair of equipment, components and structures;

Check the quality of the equipment and machinery of metal structures during preventive or regular maintenance;

Machine different metal alloys and thermoplastics using different tooling such as a lathe, dimpling machine, roller, etc. in order to fabricate different parts used in different, at times very complex, assemblies;

Ensures that all life cycle management activities under their control are adequately captured in assets management system for the life cycle management of DFO assets and that the system is used for work planning, reporting, performance analysis and decision making associated with the position.

Intent of the process

The current intention of this process is to fill two (2) indeterminate position at the Canadian Coast Guard in the Integrated Technical Services Directorate . A pool of qualified candidates could be created to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures in Quebec.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Professional diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in relation to metallurgy (electric welding, oxyacetylene welding, metal cut and folding, mechanic assembly).

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in fit-up and welding of steel and aluminum.
- Experience in welding on horizontal, vertical and flat positioning with the following processes :
o Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) for Steel.
o Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) for Steel.
o Gas metal Arc Welding (GMAW) for Steel and Aluminium.
o Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG) for Steel and Aluminium.
o Welding using oxy-acetylene burning equipment.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the regulation related to welder work.
Knowledge of Health and safety regulation.
Knowledge of welding techniques.

ABILITIES
Ability to perform welding works and to operate workshop, field work and safety equipment in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements.
Ability to climb on structures to perform welding work.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

CERTIFICATION
Valid Canadian Welding Bureau certification.

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in machining
- Experience in fit-up and welding of steel and aluminum including steel mounting in height on structures up to 35 meters high.

KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge of aids to navigations.

Reliability Status security clearance

Hold a valid driver license Class 5 and willingness to drive a motor vehicle or a light truck.
Valid medical suitability.
Willingness and physical ability to perform hard work and to lift and carry heavy weight up to 50 kg outdoor on rough terrain, on remote sites and in severes environmental conditions.
Willingness and physical ability to climb and work on structures (towers) up to 35 meters in height to perform work including on a bosun's chair either inside or outside of structures.
Willingness and physical ability to travel for extended periods of time to remote sites via various modes of transportation including helicopters, airplanes, all-Terrain Vehicles (ATVS), ships and small boats.
Willingness to work weekends and overtime as required, sometime on short notice.
