Intent of the process

This process will be used to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill the same or similar positions within the Canadian Coast Guard with varying terms of employment, language requirements, security requirements and work locations depending on the needs of the positions being staffed.

EDUCATION
Diploma related to internal combustion engine mechanics, electromechanics/industrial mechanics (e.g. D.E.P. in construction machinery mechanics or automobile mechanics), and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience in maintenance and repair of internal combustion mechanical systems and equipment (power generation equipment, self-contained pump) and/or hydraulic power unit.

Bilingual - Imperative (A-A/BBB)

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the operation of internal combustion engines and/or hydraulic power units.
Knowledge of the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the application of occupational health and safety rules.

ABILITIES
Ability to find and correct problems with internal combustion engines and their controls.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to use a computer and the MS Office suite.
Ability to work with little or no supervision.

ASP Construction card with WHMIS mention.

EXPERIENCE
Experience using Maximo software or any other databases.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge in the operation of various generator sets.
Knowledge of electricity and control.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Hold a valid class 5 driver's license recognized in Quebec and agree to drive a motor vehicle;
Have passed the Health Canada medical examination;
Agree to climb and work on structures (towers) up to 36 meters (120 ft);
Agree to do hard work on sometimes uneven terrain and in bad weather;
Agree to travel for periods of up to 6 weeks and travel by various modes of transport including helicopter or small boats;
Agree to be deployed on or near contaminated sites on short notice (in a safe manner);
Agree to complete administrative tasks using a computer such as producing short reports on the condition of equipment, entering information into a database, tracking the movement of equipment, completing expense reports , etc.
