Duties for the incumbent under the direction of the research scientist will include the following:
• Conduct experiments related to remote sensing and plant physiology.
• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples in support of ongoing research projects.
• Collect, analyze and interpret ground and aerial based imaging data.
• Adapt protocols for measurements to address research questions.
• Develop and implement software pipelines and tools.
• Participate in the design and implementation of research experiments by advising on the effective use equipment and assisting in the interpretation of research data and record-keeping.
• Liaise with AAFC staff, service and sales representatives when research analyses are out-sourced, to ensure accuracy and consistency of results.
• Assist in the coordination of summer students and graduate student activities.

Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in remote sensing, geographic information systems, precision agronomy, plant physiology or in another relevant field.

Experience in collecting and analyzing satellite, aerial or ground-based digital images.
Experience in the collection of plant or soil parameters.
Experience using mapping and analytics software (e.g. ArcGIS, ENVI or PCI).
Experience in conducting research activities in laboratory or greenhouse.
Experience in managing crops.
Graduation with a Master's Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in remote sensing, geographic information systems, precision agronomy, plant physiology or in another relevant field.
Obtained a Pilot Certificate - Advanced Operations.
Experience in piloting unmanned aerial vehicles (e.g. drones).
Experience in using statistical software (e.g. R).

• Possession of a valid, class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.

• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a valid pilot’s license to fly unmanned aerial vehicles.
