Duties

The Canadian Space Agency is looking for an Oracle Database Administrator to join our Software and Database Solutions team.

Its main responsibilities are to:

1. Support Oracle databases in a Linux environment :

• Configuration, update and troubleshooting of Oracle DBMS software on Linux servers (including patches).
• Planning and monitoring the physical requirements of the database system, such as memory, disk space
• Creating, configuring and troubleshooting Oracle databases.
• Migration or upgrade of databases and related applications.
• Management and monitoring of storage space in databases
• Monitor and tune databases to ensure optimal performance.
• Ensure the security of databases.
• Control access permissions and privileges
• Configuration and update of Oracle's RMAN backup tool.
• Management, development and testing of backup and recovery procedures with RMAN
• Performing database recovery procedures in the event of problems.

2. Support the development and implementation of software solutions :

• Installation, configuration and update of the Oracle client on Web servers.
• Creation and maintenance of database structures.
• Provide recommendations for application design guidelines for database access.
• Work closely with IT project managers and database programmers.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION

Completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary program of study in computer science, information technology, information management or other field related to the position to be filled.

Note : at the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE

E1. Significant* and recent** experience in Oracle database administration
E2. Significant* and recent** experience administering and updating Oracle's RMAN backup tool
E3. Significant* and recent** experience installing and configuring Oracle on Linux Red Hat
E4. Significant* and recent** experience in writing SQL queries

*Significant experience means the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities for a period of approximately two (2) years.

** Recent experience is defined as experience that has been obtained within approximately the last five (5) years.
