It will be expected for you to assess how Indigenous Peoples experience the delivery of government services on a day-to-day basis and identify ways to improve delivery that are holistic, community-based, and put
the needs of the person first.

Duties

Regional Senior Program Officers with the creation of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and the transformation of education, this position will be part of a team that will support First Nations to build a strong, community-based, linguistically and culturally-appropriate education system for their students. Our vision is to support First Nation control of First Nation education by establishing a nation-to-nation relationship that strengthens First Nation education, focusing on sufficient, predictable and sustained funding. Key activities of the position will include planning, developing and managing programs, projects and services. This position will require an individual with leadership skills, strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team.

Field Services Officers serve as the primary contact between Indigenous Services Canada and First Nations leadership and administration on a variety of issues, particularly issues relating to funding agreements. The position involves frequent meetings with First Nations government officials, significant efforts within the department working with programs and internal staff, and completion of various fiscal year cycle tasks, including annual reviews of audited financial statements.

Indian Moneys Officers work with First Nations on issues relating to Indian Moneys as defined by the Indian Act and First Nations governance/elections. The position involves communicating with First Nations on all Indian moneys issues, analyzing financial proposals, and providing written recommendations to management based on a superior understanding of relevant legislation and policies.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar permanent and/or temporary vacancies in Edmonton (Alberta), Calgary (Alberta) and/or Tsuut’ina Nation (Alberta).

*Pool could be used for acting appointments under exceptional circumstances to protect employee’s indeterminate status.
