Work environment

The Information Management and Technology (IMT) Branch, within the British Columbia RCMP Division, is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining information, communication and computer technologies. The Branch is located in the RCMP Headquarters in Surrey, B.C. where it is nestled within the Green Timbers Urban Forest. We strive to provide our clients with excellent service at all times and provide our employees with a healthy work environment by creating a respectful workplace, working as a team and putting our clients’ needs first and foremost. The right candidates will work within a cohesive team to achieve the desired outcomes for their respective goals.

The work environment is in an office setting, primarily with the Government of Canada Workplace 2.0 strategy. The IM+T Branch office space utilizes a combination of this and functional workspaces that is both collaborative and interactive. Employees work a 37.5 hour work week, Monday through Friday with some flexibility to work variable start times or completing their hours of work over 8 or 9 days instead of 10 in a two week period. The Management Services Section supports the IMTB Director General, various Branch Section (Information Management, Business Solutions, IT Operational Program, IT Core, Computer Services and the Radio Technology Program) and Branch employees through the centralized management of Finance, Human Resources, Personnel Security, Divisional Shared Services Canada IT Projects, Strategic Planning and other administrative support functions. This approach uses economies of scale and subject matter expertise to provide in-depth knowledge and services in a consistent and standardized manner.

This position reports directly to the Manager of our Management Services Section and provides: financial management advice and guidance; coordinates budgetary planning, control and reporting; uses complex functionalities in MS Excel including pivot tables and vlookup formulas; supervises 1-3 employees that support the finance functions within the IMTB. Please note: significant financial analysis is required.

This position is located in a law enforcement environment that includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.

Intent of the process

Anticipatory.

The intent/result of this process is to indeterminately staff (on a full time basis) one position.

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies, similar or lower-level positions, for term, permanent and acting, at full or part time hours.

Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent may be considered for deployment.

Experience:
Recent* and significant** experience providing accounting or financial support services in a full accounting cycle (e.g. budgeting, forecasting, invoices, expense claims, JVs, running reports, year-end).
Significant** experience providing administrative services, advice and guidance to managers or clients.
Significant** experience analyzing, interpreting, and applying financial management policy instruments or financial information.
Significant** experience using a financial management system (such as Team, SAP).
Recent* experience providing customer services.
Recent* and significant** experience using EXCEL at an intermediate level (e.g. formulas, pivot tables).

*Recent experience is defined as the performance of duties within the last 12-24 months.
**Significant experience means depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of duties over a period of approximately 18-36 months in the relevant functions.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

This process and the resulting pool will only be used to staff positions in the RCMP “E” Division IMT Branch.
