The EC-06 position would be a senior advisor position in the Agriculture and Food Systems Division drawing from a strong knowledge base and providing strategic, policy and technical advice to support agriculture, forests and food systems projects. The position would report to the Deputy Director of Policy & Practice within the Agriculture and Food Systems Division, and be expected to provide mentorship to junior advisors and students on the team. Key activities of the position would include:
1. Providing strategic & policy advice on agriculture, and related sub-themes, in particular related to climate change and gender equality;
2. Providing technical agronomic and agri-environmental advice, expertise and advisory services to support global, geographic, and partnerships international assistance programming, including the review of international development project documents;
3. Developing professional networks, partnerships and build alliances with agriculture partners, including within the Department, interdepartmentally, development networks, global organizations, research institutes, and professional bodies working in their theme/sector;
4. Representing Canada and delivering policy and technical positions on agriculture in both domestic and international events related to international agricultural development, including multilateral negotiations, bilateral government meetings, and knowledge events;
5. Developing evidence-based knowledge products, drawn from economic, socio-economic or agronomic research and analysis.

EDUCATION:
- Doctoral Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in agronomy, agri-environment or agricultural science.
EXPERIENCE:
- Significant experience* in providing strategic advice and recommendations to clients or senior management (Director General or equivalent or above) on international development assistance projects related to agriculture and agri-food systems from a government-to-government, multilateral or non-governmental organization (NGO) or private sector perspective;
- Significant experience* in technical analysis of agriculture and agri-food systems project and policy documents in the context of international development assistance;
- Practical work experience in the agriculture, agro-forestry or food systems sector in a developing country;
- Experience leading and coordinating consultative processes or meetings with multiple partners or stakeholders, including multilateral or bilateral discussions on agriculture or agri-food systems issues.
*Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, related activities which are normally acquired over a minimum full-time period of five (5) years. The amount and the diversity of activities, as well as the autonomy level will also be taken into consideration.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in teaching, training or capacity building on agriculture or agri-food systems of students in a formal education setting;
- Practical work experience in the agriculture or agribusiness private sector, including in farming;
- Experience in the use of tools for measuring and assessing greenhouse gas emissions, mitigation or adaptation/resilience in agriculture or agri-food systems.

- Extensive knowledge of agriculture in an international development context on two or more sub-themes, including agronomy, climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, agri-food systems and value-chains development, food science, agricultural nature-based solutions, or agri-environmental innovation/research;
- Knowledge of the global architecture of international agriculture and food systems, including the principal international organisations, networks and alliances that influence global agriculture and food systems;
- Knowledge of the Government of Canada’s international development assistance priorities as they relate to the agriculture and food systems sector in the context of climate change.
