We are seeking a Research Biologist with expertise and experience in the field of microbial molecular biology (Position 1) and a Research Biologist with expertise and experience in the field of pea biology and molecular biology (Position 2). The successful candidates will lead independent research projects under the expert guidance and implement existing and new projects focused on the improvement of symbiotic microorganisms (Position 1) or the crop (Position 2).
Immediate need: 2 full time temporary positions. Term duration of one year or until August 31, 2023.
Position 1: Microbial molecular biology
Location: Calgary, AB
Position 2: Plant molecular biology
Location: Lacombe, AB
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar permanent or temporary positions.

Both positions:
• Graduation with a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biology or plant sciences with specialization in bacterial genetics, microbiology, plant biology, molecular biology, plant biotechnology, or other specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Both positions:
• Experience providing technical support in a research laboratory environment.
• Experience planning and executing research activities related to microbial molecular biology or plant molecular biology such as DNA/RNA extraction, gene expression, quantitative PCR and Western analysis.
• Experience in data analysis and statistical applications.
• Experience preparing project reports and scientific manuscripts.
Both positions:
• Documented scientific productivity/recognition in the form of authorship/editorship of research results in recognized scientific journals, and published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from scientific research.
Position 1 - Microbial molecular biology only:
• Experience working with Rhizobium.
• Experience in confocal microscopy.
Position 2 - Plant molecular biology only:
• Experience in RNAseq analysis.
• Experience in investigating plant genetic/physiological markers.
