Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in electrical engineering.
Experience:
Significant* and recent** experience in the field of electrical engineering.
Significant* and recent** experience researching, analyzing, synthesizing and adapting scientific information and data, and writing technical reports, publications or studies.
Significant* and recent** experience planning and co-ordinating activities in a scientific, industrial or regulatory program.
Experience working with standards and compliance with requirements.
* Significant refers to the depth and breadth of that experience (i.e. scope/degree of experience (e.g. not limited to one product area, exposure to various activities or complex cases, level of exposure, etc…) acquired over a period of at least 5 years.
**Recent means in the last 5 years.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of the theory and application of electrical engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of the Acts, Standards and Codes pertinent to the assessment and management of electrical consumer products.
Knowledge of principles and practices of assessing risks to human health from electrical consumer products.
Knowledge of testing procedures to determine the electrical hazards of consumer products.
Abilities:
Ability to identify electrical hazards of consumer products.
Ability to conduct research, analyze scientific data and make recommendations.

Education:
Master’s degree in an engineering field relevant to the duties of the position.
Licensed as a professional engineer in Canada
Experience:
Experience in electrical or electronic product design.
Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.
Experience with product safety testing and compliance.
Experience conducting root cause analyses.
Experience with project management in a scientific/research and development environment.
Experience working on standards development organization technical committees.
Experience conducting risk assessments of consumer product incidents, injuries, near misses, or product related complaints.
Experience conducting and coordinating testing of electrical/electronic products or electronic components in a laboratory or research and development environment.
Operational Requirements:
Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice may be required.
Willingness and ability to travel when required.
