The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is a federal body accountable to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change. The Agency delivers high-quality impact assessments that contribute to informed decision making on major projects in support of sustainable development. The Agency, through its delivery of impact assessments, serves Canadians by looking at both positive and negative environmental, economic, social, and health impacts of potential projects. Among its many responsibilities, the Agency:

• leads and manages the impact assessment process for all federally designated major projects;
• leads Crown engagement and serves as the single point of contact for consultation and engagement with Indigenous peoples during impact assessments for designated projects;
• provides opportunities and funding to support public participation in impact assessments.

The Agency is looking for several professionals to help it achieve its objectives.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified individuals resulting from this process will be created and used to fill similar positions across our regional offices including our office in Ottawa with various linguistic profiles (English essential, French essential, bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual imperative CBC/CBC) as well as the duration (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, term) could vary depending on the position.

EDUCATION:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized university, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position

Note : Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in analysing scientific or science-based information and writing documents or presentations

- Experience working on issues related to the environment* with:
• government departments or agencies (federal or provincial), OR
• Indigenous groups, OR
• environmental non-governmental organizations.

*Experience working on issues related to the environment can be gained through professional or personal life experiences, as relevant.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

ASSESSMENT

Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position. You may be assessed using a variety of assessment tools, such as, but not limited to: standardized tests, written exams, interviews, simulation exercises, reference checks, recent and past performance evaluations, self-assessments, candidate achievement record, etc.

Please note that your overall conduct and communications, including email correspondence, throughout the entire process may be used in the assessment of qualifications and competencies.

You must provide proof of your education credentials. If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. For more information please click on “Degree Equivalency” in the Education section above.

A top-down screening approach may be undertaken. Applicants who meet the essential experience criteria may be ranked according to the depth and breadth of experience they possess. Only the top ranking candidates may be invited to the assessment phase of the process. Asset criteria may also be applied at any stage in the process, including but not limited to the screening stage.

A cut-off score may also be used at any stage of assessment.

Recent and past performance evaluations and talent management information may be used as part of the assessment process.

LEAVE/ABSENCES DURING THIS SELECTION PROCESS: It is the responsibility of the candidate to notify the Departmental contact of any pre-approved leave throughout the duration of the process in order to facilitate scheduling of evaluations. One (1) alternate date will be possible only if requested for the following reasons: 1) Medical reasons with doctor’s certificate 2) Death in your immediate family 3) Confirmation of pre-approved travel plans or training plans (made before the advertisement posting date) 4) Religious reasons or 5) Participation in an assessment for another selection process.

Please note that achieving the pass mark on any of the assessments used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process. Management may decide to use a score that is higher than the pass mark on any of the evaluations used throughout the selection process.

Management may choose to invoke an asset(s) at any point of the process.
