Duties

A Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Work environment

Fort Smith is classified as an Isolated Post. As such, the successful candidate must meet all the conditions under the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive prior to appointment. In addition, the successful candidate will be entitled to an Isolated Post Allowance. For more information please refer to the following website:

Important financial information:
• Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Fort Smith ranges from approximately $15,068 to 22,349 which is based on if the employee has dependents.
• Vacation Travel Assistance is provided once a year for Fort Smith of approximately $1,458 for each eligible member of the household.

Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory selection process with the intent to staff one (1) position for an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff future permanent and/or temporary vacancies in Fort Smith within the RCMP.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

- Successful completion of two years of secondary school, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.*

*Candidates invited to an interview will be required to bring proof of their education credentials, in the form of a diploma or official transcript.

Degree equivalency

- Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including: data entry, preparing correspondence, or filing.
- Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.

- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving or destroying data.
- Experience in providing administrative support services to senior management.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Willing and able to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
- Maintain a valid driver's license, or have personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.
- Willingness and ability to occasionally travel for work or training purposes using various modes of transportation including small aircraft.

Conditions of employment

- RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) security clearance.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a RCMP Security Clearance throughout their employment.

- Health Canada approved medical clearance (Isolated Post only).

- All employees of the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 andattest to their vaccination status unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, oranother prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
