Duties

Public Services and Procurement Canada manages one of the largest and most diverse portfolios of real estate in the country and is the Government of Canada's real property expert. Our Pacific Region extends from the Canada/US border to the Arctic, including British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Our real property professionals include office accommodation specialists, architects, engineers, environmental scientists, real estate experts and asset and facility managers. Our work in delivering services is equally diverse; it includes construction and repairs to federal correctional facilities, research laboratories, border crossings, remote harbours as well as office fit-up in owned and leased facilities.

As a Geomatics Officer you will be responsible for equipment maintenance, plan preparation, carrying out field surveys, truck/boat maintenance, ordering survey supplies, and other tasks that come up in day-to-day operations.

Intent of the process

One position is currently available at the Vancouver office. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent or temporary) with various work locations in PSPC Pacific Region. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a Diploma in Geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution. You must be prepared to provide the original or a certified true copy of your educational credentials. Candidates with foreign credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Consult the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials for further information at: cicic.ca

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience participating in Topographic surveys, Legal surveys, including the operation of Robotic Total Stations, GPS surveys and Hydrographic surveys.
Recent* experience in preparing topographic survey plans.
Recent* experience in using AutoCAD, Civil 3D 2019 and newer versions.
Experience in the processing of collected survey data using Survey Software packages (such as but not limited to, Civil 3D, Trimble Business centre).

*Significant will be evaluated in regard to amount, complexity and diversity of work handled, and level of autonomy demonstrated. Clear and specific examples should be provided by candidates in their application.
*Recent is defined as experience obtained within the last 3 years.

Knowledge of geomatics concepts such as Field Survey Methodology (including but not limited to Traversing, static and Real Time Kinematic GPS surveying), Coordinate systems and drone procedures.
Knowledge of survey plan preparation.
Knowledge of a echo sounder.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a Degree in Geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in Underground Infrastructure.
Experience in the operation of Hydrographic survey vessels.

Conditions of employment

Security Clearance Requirement: Reliability Status.
Willingness and ability, in the future, to undergo and maintain additional security clearance such as secret and secret enhance, in order to meet government and clients’ needs.
Pre-placement and Periodic Health Evaluation.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Willingness and ability to:
• work overtime when required
• travel out of town when required up to three weeks away from home.
• work on and operate small survey vessels.
• work in remote sites with rugged terrain
• travel in various modes of transportation such as float planes, helicopters, and small vessels
