The successful candidate will be part of a research team that applies genomics and genetics to understand the molecular interaction between plants and pathogens with specific focus on fungal disease of Brassica napus (canola) and wheat. The successful candidate will apply molecular biology techniques to analyse the function of pathogen virulence and plant defense genes. Effect of chemical and biological elicitors of plant defense will be tested on plant immunity response using high throughput assays. Molecular biology and biochemistry techniques will be applied to analyse the function of plant pathogen receptors, host defense gene network and plant targets of pathogen virulence proteins. Research duties will mainly consist of both greenhouse and laboratory work, however candidate may also be required to conduct field research experiments.
Immediate need: 1 full-time temporary position (2 year term).
A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in plant biology, molecular biology or another specialty relevant to the position.

Experience in plant molecular biology (relevant experience includes molecular cloning, gene expression analysis, agrobacterium and viral mediated gene expression).
Experience in plant pathology (relevant experience include maintaining fungal pathogen isolates, plant inoculation and disease evaluation (visual and microscopy) pathogen genotyping.
Experience planning and conducting lab and greenhouse based research.
Experience in working with a team of researchers and support staff.
Graduation with an acceptable post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in plant molecular biology or a related field.
Experience in canola or wheat pathology.
Experience in protein expression purification and detection.
Experience in fluorescence microscopy.
Experience in transformation of plant pathogenic fungi.
Experience in transient gene expression in plants.
Experience applying gene editing systems in plants.
Experience in in planta transient expression methods and analysis.
