The immediate need is to fill one indeterminate (permanent) GL MDO 05 position and one indeterminate (permanent) GL MDO 06 position in Victoria, BC. This process may be used to staff the same or similar positions with various tenures, language or security requirements in various DND locations across Canada.
Positions to be filled: Number to be determined
Possession of a valid unrestricted Class 1 (Class A in Ontario) driver’s license with air brake endorsement valid in the province of work.
Note: Restriction number one (glasses) is not applicable.
GL MDO 05:
Experience operating tractor trailers or highway passenger bus/school bus.
GL MDO 06:
Experience in operating heavy equipment with hydraulics such as a backhoe, grader or dump truck.

- Secondary school diploma
- Certification in one or more of the following:
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods
• Forklift Certification

Experience in long haul driving.
Experience in performing operator inspection and maintenance on one or more of the following commercial vehicles: 49 Passenger Buses (minimum size), 5 Ton Cargo trucks, Tractor-Trailer combination vehicles.
Experience in performing operator inspection and maintenance on heavy construction vehicles such as graders, bulldozers, backhoes, snow and ice equipment, etc.
Experience in the transportation of dangerous goods.
Experience in snow and ice removal operations or equipment.
Experience in basic road construction or road maintenance.
Experience using DND’s Fleet Management System.
Experience operating powered Materiel Handling Equipment.
Experience in handling and tying down loads on vehicles or trailers.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications, such as, Excel, Word and Outlook.
Experience working with DND transportation policies.
Experience operating a crane.
Experience in supervision.
Experience using load chart regulations.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Operational Requirements may vary or be exchanged with Conditions of Employment, depending on the position to be filled. These may include:
• Willing and able to wear CSA approved safety footwear and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed.
• Willing and able to work in inclement weather conditions.
• Willing and able to work standby, overtime and occasionally on weekends and holidays.
• Must be willing to work a shift schedule.
• Willing and able to perform physically demanding tasks including safely lift and carry 25 kg, bending, climbing stairs and climbing into heavy equipment.
• Willing and able to be mobile within various areas of responsibility, depending on the position being staffed.
• Willing and able to attend employer directed training.
• Willing and able to obtain and retain a DND 404.
• Willing and able to maintain and produce a driver’s log book.
• Various security (Reliability / Secret)
• All employees of the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act and attest to their vaccination status

• Must be willing to obtain and maintain a DND Driver's Licence (DND 404).
• An acceptable* driver's abstract provided within 30 days of request, dated no earlier than 30 days prior to the request.
*Acceptable as determined by management.

• Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks including safely lift and carry 25 kg, bend, climb stairs and climb into heavy equipment.
• Must be willing and able to work a shift schedule.
• Must be willing and able to work overtime as authorized.
• Must be willing and able to work in inclement weather conditions.

❗ On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status.
