Work environment

The RCMP is seeking talented candidates with proven ability to provide a high level of client support in a unique environment with the Radio Technology Program in E Division (BC). We have locations in Prince George, Kelowna, Nanaimo and Surrey.

Employees work a 37.5 hour (or 40 hour for Civilian Members) work week. Core business hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 0800 and 1600, with some flexibility to work variable start times or completing their hours of work over 9 days instead of 10 in a two week period.

This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff 1 permanent and 1 temporary vacancy.

A qualified pool will be established and may be used for future permanent or temporary vacancies.

Casual contracts may be offered to candidates identified through this selection process.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Education:
Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Recent* and significant** experience in providing administrative support in an office environment.
• Recent* and significant** experience in providing service to internal and external clients by telephone, in person, or in writing.
• Recent* and significant** experience in using a variety of Windows-based computer software applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases).

*Recent experience is defined as the performance of duties within the last 24 months
**Significant experience means depth and breadth of experience obtained over a continuous period of approximately 12 months

Experience:
• Recent* experience providing administrative support in a policing environment
• Recent* experience in the use of TEAM/SAP for financial or inventory management purposes
• Recent* experience in the use of TEAM Portal to create and manage shift schedules
• Experience providing financial support (including procurement of items, budget forecasting/monitoring, reconciling invoices etc.)
• Experience using an information database (including entry, retrieval and compilation of data)
• Experience researching and applying guidelines and policies

• Willing to certify in basic amateur radio or Radio Technology Program basic radio exam within the first year of employment.

Conditions of employment

Conditions of Employment:

• Enhanced reliability status with top secret security clearance.
• Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s license.
• Physical ability for lifting of heavy or awkward items like computers or radios, up to 13kg, on a regular basis.
• Mobility to the extent of crawling under furniture and inside vehicles to acquire inventory information such as serial and asset numbers.
• Willingness and ability to work extended hours, unscheduled overnight travel and/or adjust work schedule, with little or no notice, to meet operational requirements.

Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Please note that candidates (including persons employed in the Public Service) will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business and travel costs will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for travel costs.

Random selection may be used to identify which applicants will be assessed or appointed in this appointment process.

If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool. If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers.
