Duties

The duties of an Imaging Technician consists mainly of handling and digitizing archival textual records, in view of preserving and making the collection accessible to the Canadian public.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
→ Digitization and quality control of digital images.
→ Metadata creation and input.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is anticipatory.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within Library and Archives Canada using various languages requirements (Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC or BBB/BBB) and/or various tenures (Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Specific period, Deployment, Indeterminate) according to the positions being staffed.This process can also be used to staff positions in the Winnipeg area if there is an operational need.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience using production scanners for digitization purposes in a professional environment;

Experience with methods and techniques used to digitize and conduct quality assurance activities on digital images.

English or French

College diploma or certificate in photography, graphic design, arts, multimedia or related studies.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE (ASSET):
Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud software (Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and Acrobat).

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours;
Ability and willingness to work overtime, on occasion and on short notice;
Ability and willingness to work in a dark environment;
Ability and willingness to work in a dusty environment;
Ability and willingness to work in a noisy environment.

Some work locations are not accessible via public transportation. Therefore, incumbents will be required to find the appropriate means of transportation.

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
- Various security profiles (reliability, secret, or top secret);
- Lift boxes weighing up to 22,8 kg (50 lbs);
- Willingness and ability to work at the work site located in Gatineau, QC or Ottawa, ON;
- To be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as per the Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
