A Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.
Hay River is classified as an Isolated Post. As such, the successful candidate must meet all the conditions under the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive prior to appointment. In addition, the successful candidate will be entitled to an Isolated Post Allowance. For more information please refer to the following website:

Important financial information:
• Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Hay River ranges from approximately $12,410 to $20,683 which is based on if the employee has dependents.
• Vacation Travel Assistance is provided once a year for Hay River of approximately $1,310 for each eligible member of the household.

- Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including: data entry, preparing correspondence, and filing.
- Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a law enforcement and/or legal environment.
– Experience transcribing statements from audio cassettes or digital media.
- Training and/or experience in providing financial support services such as the collection and recording of monies received, verifying supplier invoices, preparing invoices.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and /or graphic material.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
• Willingness and ability to maintain a valid driver's license, or have personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes, using various modes of transportation.

• RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) security clearance.
» The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Reliability Status. The process requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.
• Health Canada approved medical clearance (Isolated Post only).

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
