As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Duties

• Monitoring and guiding multiple/diverse sub-activities within project objectives with limited direction.
• Developing new or modified methods, practices, techniques for model development;
• Contributing to the content of databases and computer models designed for physical science research activities within specific project objectives.
• Transferring knowledge in the form of reports or articles, as well as providing model use training to stakeholders in industry and government.
• Adapting existing methods as well as develop new models to improve the prediction of the impacts of soil and crop management practices on agricultural production and environmental impacts.

Intent of the process

Immediate need: 1 full-time temporary position (1 year).

A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Master of Science degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in agriculture, ecology or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience simulating the environmental impacts of farming systems using the Holos model.
Experience with model algorithms and model input parameter requirements.
Experience in deriving missing model input parameter from other data sources.

Knowledge of Canadian farming systems.
Knowledge of the interaction between livestock and crop production systems, including livestock manure management systems.
Knowledge of the fundamental soil processes in crop and livestock production system.
Knowledge of carbon models, their structure and functioning, as well as their weaknesses.

Ability to provide advice and guidance on model use and assess performance of the model.
