The RCMP hires civilian employees in a wide variety of disciplines to support our police officers at detachments and offices. Civilian employees play a critical role in delivering services to our communities and supporting our local, provincial and national policing priorities.
The Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

This selection process will initially be used to staff one vacant temporary position. A pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM); may be established through this process to staff identical or similar CR-05/SPS-CK-05 positions on a temporary or permanent full-time or part-time basis.
Please note that an assignment appointment requires approval of your supervisor.
Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of two years of secondary school or employer-approved alternatives*.
*The employer-approved alternatives to two years of secondary school are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to two years of secondary school; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Recent* and significant** experience in an office environment, providing administrative support in at least FOUR of the following:
- Compiling information and/or preparing correspondence, documents, or reports;
- Requisitioning supplies and/or controlling inventory;
- Maintaining administrative hard and/or electronic filing systems;
- Maintaining and submitting accounts for payment (controlling and processing invoices), and running financial reports
- Responding to inquiries for information relevant to the functions of the work unit or organization;
- Providing information on organizational policy or procedures;
- Providing services to internal and/or external clients via telephone or in person.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications including word processors and spreadsheets and using electronic mail systems.
*Recent is having the experience acquired within last five (5) years.
**Significant experience is defined as experience associated with having directly performed the functions on continuous bases, for a minimum of one (1) year.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience providing administrative services in a legal or police services environment.
Experience working in a federal government office or providing federal government programs or services.
Experience in using SAP Financial System.
Experience providing administrative support in complex and lengthy investigations.
Experience in using police computer applications such as: PROS; PRIME; CPIC; CJIM, Versadex; etc.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Various operational requirements may apply depending on the specific requirements of the position being staffed.
Reliability Status security clearance - NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring.
