3. TYPING SKILLS : You must have the "Ability to type/keyboard 43 w.p.m. with less than 5% error rate". We strongly recommend that you practice your typing skills prior to coming to the RCMP Public Safety Communications Pre-Employment Test-CritiCall, as this criteria is a Pass or Fail. Should you not pass you will be eliminated.
On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
Who are we and what do we do?
The Ontario Operational Communication Centre (OCC) is the main hub for all things related to police dispatching, security monitoring, day-to-day officer operations, and connection between resources. This means that we take care of 9-1-1 calls in relation to our jurisdictions, provide assistance to the public and our officers on emergency and non-emergency matters, and much more. We are the 24/7 communications support for the National Capital Region, as well as the entirety of Ontario.
What will you be doing?
As a telecommunications operator, you will be responsible for carrying out the daily operational duties of the OCC which can vary from regular police dispatching, to answering emergency and non-emergency calls and creating files, to status keeping officers on the road and providing them with anything they may need. You will have access to various systems, applications and databases that will provide a variety of information, and will communicate with many internal (within RCMP) and external (outside RCMP) partners.

The intent of the process is to establish a pool of qualified applicants for the training program.
Candidates who are qualified at the TCO-01 (trainee) level and who are selected for the Telecommunications Operator Training Program8 will be appointed to a DETERMINATE (initial 6 months term) appointment at the TCO-01 group and level.
Only the TCO-01 (trainee) who successfully complete the training program* will be placed in a pool of qualified TCO-02 which may be used to appoint determinately (term) or indeterminately (permanent) at the TCO-02 group and level.
*Upon initial appointment as a Police Dispatcher Trainee, continued employment is conditional upon successful completion of classroom training, field coaching, simulation exams and proficiency evaluations for call-taking and dispatching.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment prior to May 21, 2020 (deeming date), the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Furthermore, CM staffing transactions resulting from this process will be administered in accordance with the Onboarding Transition Phase until deeming day.
