Duties

The Field Services Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, supervising and performing a wide range of farm labour support and operations with scientific and technical staff which contributes to the success of projects and experiments.

Degree equivalency

Experience working in tree fruit or vineyard production.
Experience working in the supervision of field staff, setting priorities, and managing work schedules.
Experience operating and maintaining modern farm machinery.
Experience in managing budgets, material and equipment needs.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Post secondary education related to horticulture.

Degree equivalency

Experience using basic computer software programs such as the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Experience in data collection and data entry for research purposes.
Experience in pest management and disease control in field crops.

Knowledge of methods, techniques and practices in horticulture including tree fruit or vineyard management.
Knowledge of application, handling, and storage of fertilizers and pesticides as well as of disposal of contaminated waste material.
Knowledge of safe operating procedures in the use of chemicals and the safe operation of field equipment.

Ability and willingness to obtain a valid Provincial Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate.
Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to work under variable weather conditions.
Ability and willingness to work in harsh environments (outdoors, cold, hot, dust, and noise).
Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work including moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 20kg).
