Join the Canadian Health Measures (CHMS) Mobile Examination Centre (MEC) team! If you have an adventurous spirit and enjoy travel, this is the position for you. During collection, you will be on continuous travel status returning home during scheduled time off. The Canadian Health Measures Survey Mobile Examination Centre moves to a new Canadian city every six weeks when in collection and you will be travelling continuously across Canada to include Montreal, Halifax, Edmonton, Prince George, Calgary, Abbotsford amongst numerous other locations. We are seeking people that are comfortable constantly traveling for upwards of two years (excluding scheduled time off). Travel accommodations, transportation, and per diems are included, under the National Joint Council travel directive, for further information regarding this please consult the NJC website.

Duties

DUTIES

- The successful candidate will work in the Mobile Examination Centre of a unique national study and continuously travel to various collection sites across Canada.

- The incumbent will be trained to perform venipuncture following established methodologies, procedures and guidelines developed for data collection for the CHMS.

- The candidate will collect and log respondent samples and prepare specimens for storage and transport to other facilities in compliance with the standard operation regulations.

- Other tasks include filing, retrieving and disposing of clinical samples, according to standard procedures.

- The candidate will follow health and safety guidelines, quality control and data security measures, policies and procedures while on the work site.

- The candidate will carry out analytical tests on specimens including performing hematology analysis.

- The workspace will be prepared daily for testing, including setting up and calibrating equipment and systems and performing routine maintenance of equipment.

- The candidate will perform quality control procedures, monitor trends, and maintain QA/QC records.

- The candidate will perform administrative activities such as maintaining supply inventories, assisting in clinic set-up and take down and other duties as required.

EDUCATION:

Diploma in medical laboratory technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION :

A valid certification from the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or the equivalent provincial certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.

EXPERIENCES :

EXP1. *Recent experience working in a laboratory processing and analyzing biological specimens such as blood and urine.

EXP2. A minimum of 12 months experience performing human phlebotomy following standardized procedures on a variety of populations such as children, the elderly and individuals with physical or mental limitations.

*Recent is defined as having performed the duties within the last five (5) years.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
