Under the direction of the Co-coordinating Biologist (officer-in-charge), plan, perform and maintain field operations in support of the research program. Responsible for farming nonresearch fields in an environmentally sustainable manner. Plan and allocate resources, efficiently for field operations. Keep records of yearly farm operations. Assist with research duties when required. Supervise and direct casual employees and students under a safe working environment. Maintain farm equipment.
Immediate need: 1 full-time permanent position.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience with western Canada farming practices, crops, soil and pest management.
Experience planning and coordinating farm field operations.
Experience in the operation, field maintenance and calibration of modern agricultural equipment.
Experience with basic computer software, including word processors, spreadsheets, email, software for storage and manipulation of data.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of Pesticide applicator s license.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the repair and maintenance of agricultural/farm related equipment.
English essential

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of pesticide and fertilizer application treatments.
Knowledge of methods, techniques and practices of farm land management, erosion control, Crop rotation, tillage, and crop production methods.
Knowledge of integrated farming management strategies for enhanced crop yield and reduced environmental impact.
COMPETENCIES:
Ability to do basic mathematical calculations pertaining to fertilizer and pesticide applications.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status.
