The position is designed to carry out research on canola diseases, including host-pathogen interactions and genetic resistance under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP)-Canola Science Cluster program. The work involves some discretion in conducting assigned experiments that include the accurate collection and statistical analysis of data, as well as monitoring a variety of situations. The work contributes to the results and objectives set by the CAP program. The work requires organizing data from each experiment assigned and drafting reports and manuscripts based on the information obtained. The scientific information and technology developed may be used in studies of AAFC research networks. The work also involves using a laptop/desktop computer and various types of laboratory instrument with mid-ranged values. The preparation and upkeep activities include upgrading software and monitoring equipment uses. It may be required to assist a Study Leader to identify the need for supplies to be used for the implementation of experiments.
The candidate will work in a team-work environment, involving a group of research and technical staff members with a range of experiences and expertise. The work is performed in laboratory/greenhouse/field conditions and may occasionally experience noise, odor and/or adverse weather conditions. The work also involves the use of a range of chemical reagents and occasionally fungicides, therefore, personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves and safety goggles are regularly required.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

EDUCATION
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of plant pathology, microbiology, crop science, plant biotechnology or a relevant discipline.

EXPERIENCE
Recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, peer-reviewed scientific journals, or other communications resulting from:
a) Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems; OR
b) Operational research and scientific analysis; OR
c) Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development; OR
d) Developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment.
Research experience related to plant-pathogen interactions and disease resistance mechanisms
Experience working in a team setting and interactions with other team members
Experience analyzing data using commercial software
Experience using basic molecular/omics tools for plant pathology research
EXPERIENCE
Research experience on canola diseases.
Experience using qPCR, transcriptome, proteome and/or metabolome analyses.
