Duties

Provide skilled mechanical diagnostics, maintenance and repair of heavy and light duty agricultural vehicles and equipment, at an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research and development center.
Maintenance and repair of common farm equipment in addition to specialized equipment such as plot combines used for research.

The Brandon Research and Development Centre is located in Brandon, Manitoba, was established in 1886 by the Government of Canada under The Experimental Farm Station Act. It is one of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's (AAFC) network of 20 Research and Development Centres.

Research at the Brandon RDC is focused on developing new and improved varieties of wheat, oats and barley, sustainable and profitable crop production systems, and agro-ecosystems.
The Centre has expertise in crop breeding and genetics, field and landscape-based resource management including soil, water, organic and inorganic nutrients, invasive plant species, rangeland, pasture, forages, and agroforestry.
The Brandon RDC supports innovative research, development, technology and knowledge transfer activities related to the following AAFC Science Sector Strategies, in Agro-Ecosystem Resilience, Cereals/Pulses/ Oilseeds and Horticulture

Intent of the process

Immediate need: 1 full-time temporary position (11months)

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

Successful completion of secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Journeymen Certificate in Farm Machinery or Heavy Duty mechanics.

Experience in the operation and maintenance of agricultural/farm related equipment.
Experience in servicing, maintaining, repairing and overhauling gas/diesel vehicles and equipment;
Experience in electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanics of equipment.
Experience in troubleshooting units, analyze faults, recommend and implement corrective measures;
Experience utilizing detailed drawings and trades manuals
