A pool of candidates will be established and will be used to staff positions within the Canadian Firearms Program on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Education
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience
Extensive* and recent** experience with a variety of firearms such as: rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, military & police automatic firearms and commercial sporting firearms
Significant*** experience in conducting research and providing firearms related technical information.
Experience in managing employees, including tasks such as: direct and remote supervision, assigning work, scheduling, and monitoring performance.
Experience in providing training or coaching to employees

* Extensive is defined as the depth and breadth of experience acquired in the delivery of programs or services. Depth and breadth is defined as involving multiple issues, multiple partners/stakeholders and multiple impacts/risks.
** Recent experience acquired within approximately the past 5 years.
*** Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience as well as the complexity of tasks that could be expected to have been obtained by carrying out the functions for 2 consecutive years within the last 5 years

Knowledge
Knowledge of firearms and ammunition (may include but not limited to: firearm operating principles, firearm design principles, firearm operating cycles, the meaning/significance of firearm markings/proofs marks, firearm terminology, firearm component names, ammunition terminology and ammunition hand-loading procedures).
Knowledge of Part III of the Criminal Code and associated regulations, including the Firearms Act.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.

Must handle firearms, as required, throughout time in the position.

Consent to participate in legal proceedings as an expert witness.

HOW TO APPLY:
You will be required to answer screening questions to demonstrate how you meet the Essential Qualifications (Education and all Essential Experiences).

3- Specific details of tasks or projects demonstrating how the experience was acquired (Situation/Challenge, Tasks, Action and Result).

Should your responses to the screening questions contain insufficient details to demonstrate that you meet the screening criteria, your application will not be given further consideration in this process. Candidates will not be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
