The incumbent will work in a laboratory setting on a project related to food science and nutrition research. The goal of the research is to develop new knowledge to improve the quality of cereal grains with respect to nutritional functionality, processing quality and utilization potential. Duties also include preparing samples for analyses (e.g. grinding, fractionating, processing, weighing), performing chemical analyses and conducting functional or physical tests on grain-bass products.
Candidate will work in a research setting and collaborate with AAFC team members such as scientists, technicians and students from the satellite laboratory of Morden Research and Development Centre, co-located on the University of Manitoba campus. Candidate will work in analytical laboratory and pilot plant facilities. Research samples will focus on grain-based products.
The work environment could involve dust, lab chemicals and other hazards that require safety training and the use of personal protective equipment.

Education:
Currently enrolled in a Master’s of Science program from a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: Food and Human Nutritional Sciences or related fields.
Note: Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutritional Sciences, Food Science, Biochemistry or another related field.
Experience:
Experience* with principles and techniques used in food science or human nutrition research.
Experience* with analytical chemistry.
Experience* in laboratory and food processing environment.
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
Ability and willingness to lift up to 25 kg.
Ability and willingness to work occasionally in an environment with loud noises from equipment.
