Duties

Molecular biology (e.g. DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, vector construction, qRT-PCR).
Plant tissue culture (biolistic-mediated transformation of wheat).
Maintenance of transgenic wheat plants in chambers.
Phenotypic assessments following foliar application of different treatments.
Sample collection.

Work environment

The candidate will either carry out coursework remotely (from Morden, MB) or spend one semester at the University of Lethbridge (depending on the university’s recommendations relating to Covid-19), and will conduct lab and greenhouse work at the Morden Research and Development Centre under supervision.

Education:
Currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in a Master’s program at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta), in the Department of Biological Sciences with a major in Biological Sciences.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in bioinformatics processing of biological data.
Experience* in plant biology.
Experience* in plant pathology.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.
