When submitting an application to this selection process, you will be prompted to answer screening questions concerning the essential education, and the essential and asset experience qualifications. It is your responsibility to provide clear and concrete examples in your responses to each question, including when (from-to), where (occupational title, organization) and how you obtained your education and experience.
It is recommended that you describe the experience examples in specific terms, providing sufficient details so that the Assessment Board can clearly understand. Describe the situation/task, the action you took, what you accomplished and/or what you learned. The Competency “ability to communicate effectively and proficiently in writing” will be assessed in part through the screening questions.

The intent of this process is to staff permanent full time EC-03 positions in Alberta.
In the event of a temporary vacancy, the following staffing actions may be used and/or considered: acting appointment, term appointment or assignment.
A combined pool of qualified candidates may be established inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM) for Intelligence Analyst positions with various tenures and locations in Alberta.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization* in economics, sociology or statistics.
*Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience conducting research, analyzing, and writing reports.
• Experience in applying analytical techniques or qualitative/quantitative methodology within a research project.
• Experience in producing and presenting material (in at least one of the following: reports, presentations and project findings) to decision-makers.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
• Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics or discipline related to the position, such as but not limited to finance, international relations, political science and computer sciences.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience with analytical tools, databases and/or mapping software (e.g. IMB i2 Analyst Notebook, ArcGIS, Geotime, advanced use of Microsoft Excel).
• Experience using open source/social media tools in a work environment.
• Experience working in a law enforcement or intelligence environment in a research or analytical capacity.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Be in possession of a valid driver’s licence.

• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
• Willingness and ability to participate in the Intelligence Analyst Understudy Training Program.

• RCMP Top Secret clearance.

Candidates may be assessed using one or more of the following tools: standardized tests, written exam, interview, simulation exercise and reference checks.
Volume Management strategies may be used.

A random or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.
