Duties

IT Security (ITS)
Employees of the ITS work stream support the CIO (Chief Information Officer) organization by providing specialized IT security guidance to ensure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of government information and assets such as IT infrastructure, business applications and data are addressed. Their work may include the development and implementation of: custom software security applications; internal security strategies and policies; security processes and risk management frameworks.

IT security areas in SSC could involve working with the following areas of IT:
- Network architecture
- Server administration
- Database administration
- Programming/Scripting
- Network monitoring
- Administration of email systems
- Access, authentication and credential management
- Classified systems
- Cloud Services
- Threat detection and incident management

Work environment

Shared Services Canada is modernizing how the Government of Canada manages its information technology (IT) infrastructure. The Department is mandated to deliver e-mail, data centre and telecommunication services, including videoconferencing and Wi-Fi, to partner organizations.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates that will be used to staff Support Analyst positions or similar positions with various tenures, various security requirements and various language profiles. In the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of collective selection processes at SSC may be shared with other government departments.

EDUCATION

ED1. Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology (IT), information management (IM) or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above.

Conditions of employment

What are conditions of employment?
