On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual (Imperative and/or Non-Imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification. (See Note 1).

Abilities / Skills
Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).

Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
•Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
•Operational research and scientific analysis;
•Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.

Note:
1.The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master’s or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.

Degree equivalency

Extensive experience* in managing a range of scientific research activities related to geoscience or geology or other scientific fields relevant to the position.
Extensive experience* in providing strategic advice to senior management, such as related to science policy options or scientific program development.
Experience in the planning and managing of human** and financial*** resources.
Experience in developing and delivering collaborative research initiatives with various partners or stakeholders.

*Extensive experience is defined as three (3) years of experience acquired in the last seven (7) years.

**Managing human resources is defined as applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have supervised staff, assigned work, managed and assessed performance and ensured development and training needs of employees are met.

***Managing financial resources is defined, as applicants must show evidence of managing and being accountable for a budget. This experience is defined as being responsible for sound financial planning, forecasting and reporting.

Significant* experience in developing and leading original laboratory-based projects from conception to publication (*Note: Significant experience is defined as two or more projects).

Experience with artificial intelligence.

Knowledge of the overall science program, stakeholders and mandate of the Geological Survey of Canada.
Knowledge of project planning and operational principles within geoscience research laboratories.

Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including overtime.
Willingness and ability to travel when required.
Willingness and ability to telework if required.
