Duties

• Revise and edit ministerial documents and internal and external communication tools to ensure quality control.
• Provide expert advice on publication features, word choice, grammatical structures and expressions.
• Revise and proofread a variety of documents related to Service Canada policies and programs and communicate with the Translation Bureau on the delivery of translated documents according to the type of documents, their number, their length and the deadline.
• Write articles for the internal newsletter.
• Translate short texts (speaking notes, messages to employees, social media posts, etc.) from French to English.
• Participate in the development of programs designed to improve the quality of French texts and documents (i.e. terminology research), identify problematic situations or aspects and help develop work tools such as terminology and lexical databases or templates.
• Provide assistance and personalized text revision services to employees of the Communications and Ministerial Affairs Directorate, explain proposed changes to authors and convince them of the merits of these changes in order to improve their writing skills and provide explanations on expressions to be avoided in order to respect the spirit of the French and English languages.
• Verify the accuracy of terminology used in sensitive French or English texts to ensure that the words used are not detrimental to the department and participate in working groups and meetings to review, develop, test and implement processes and procedures to optimize operational efficiency.
• Research terminology and participate in the development of glossaries and lexicons of terms and acronyms specific to departmental programs and policies.
• Propose corrections to work prepared by the Translation Bureau to ensure that the original message is respected and make linguistic adaptations or revisions as required.
• Propose reasonable deadlines to internal clients, taking into account the type, number and length of documents to be translated, and convince clients to accept these deadlines.

Work environment

At Service Canada, you will have the opportunity to work in a flexible organization that values telework/remote work. Employees who wish to do so can work, on a voluntary basis, in the Service Canada offices located at the Guy-Favreau Complex in Montreal.

The work requires sitting for long periods of time and being exposed to the brightness of a computer screen.

EXPERIENCE
EXP1: Experience in the analysis, revision and transcription of documents in French and English
EXP2: Experience in conducting quality control of various unilingual and bilingual texts
EXP3: Experience using a personal computer running word processing and/or spreadsheet and/or presentation software

Bilingual - Imperative (PPC/PPC)
Proficiency in both official languages is required to correct and proofread texts from French to English and from English to French and to ensure the linguistic quality of texts intended for Service Canada employees and the general public.
