LOCATION:
The regular location should be at an ECCC worksite location in Canada. If remote work / working remotely is approved, this location should be within commuting distance from an ECCC worksite location in Canada. Should a “Return to worksites” applicable to the successful candidate occur during the period of the job opportunity, the successful candidate may be required to report to an ECCC worksite for the continuation and duration of the job opportunity.

Research and develop machine learning models for producing historical and future projections of ocean waves and other climate variables. The work will involve manipulation of large volumes of data from climate models, as well as development and use of advanced statistical and mathematical methods to analyze data. The outcome of this work will support research carried out in ECCC’s Climate Research Division to characterize future changes in ocean waves, which has important implications for coastal and offshore infrastructure and operations and for climate change adaptation.

Education:
Enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD program) in Computing/Data Science, Earth System Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
Experience:
Experience in developing and applying deep learning methods.
1 - Experience using convolutional and/or recurrent neural networks.
2 - Experience working in a High Performance Computing environment.
3 - Experience handling large datasets.
4 - Experience in the analysis of climate observations and/or model output.
