Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is the largest federal government employer, offering over 70 different types of civilian career opportunities. Intent of the process

This inventory advertisement will used for casual employment. Casual employment is a temporary form of employment for a maximum of 90 working days per department in a calendar year. A casual worker may not apply to internal job opportunities. Shifts can include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays as well as “as and when required” during the week.

Operational Requirements

Must be willing and able to work shifts and weekends
Must wear CSA approved safety footwear and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
Must be willing and able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 20 kg.
Must be willing and able to perform a variety of physical tasks for an extended period of time, including but not limited to standing, walking, lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling.
Must be willing and able to ascend and descend up to 3 flights of stairs
Must be willing and able to work with flammable, corrosive, and/or aerosol soaps, polishes, chemicals, and other cleaning products – including bleach – with the provision of PPE
Must be willing and able to use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.
Must be willing and able to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
Must be willing and able to be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
Must be willing and able to repeat the same movements.
Must be willing and able to use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
Must be willing and able to move two or more limbs together (eg. Two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
Must be willing and able to use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
Must be willing and able to coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving.
