Important messages

We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request specialized accommodation. All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.

Assessment accommodation

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

ONLY APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED ON-LINE USING THE 'APPLY ON-LINE' BUTTON ABOVE WILL BE CONSIDERED.

What makes inventories different from other job advertisements?
You only need to apply once, but you can be considered for different job opportunities. Even if your application is not selected for one vacancy, your application remains in the inventory and can be selected again for the entire duration that the inventory remains open. As an applicant, you can go back and update your resume or response to the pre-screening questions at any time. As an inventory, candidates will be screened and assessed on a periodic basis.
The inventory will be updated every 90 days. You will receive a notice in your applicant account 10 days before the end of your active period to determine whether or not you wish to keep being considered for an additional 90 days.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate in the screening questions how they meet the education and experience criteria listed in the essential qualifications, and asset qualifications (if applicable).
Please note that stating that the requirement has been met, and/or listing past or current responsibilities, does not represent adequate substantiation. Rather, you must provide concrete examples that clearly illustrate how you meet the requirement.
Résumés may be used as a secondary source to validate the qualifications described; comments such as "refer to my attached resume" will not be accepted and may result in your application being rejected. Failure to provide this information in the requested format may result in your application being rejected.
Please pay careful attention to the screening and text questions in your application. Candidates will not be contacted for missing or incomplete information.

When completing the screening and text questions, remember that the assessment committee cannot make assumptions about your experience. It is insufficient to say that you have the required qualifications or to list your current or past duties. Rather, candidates must demonstrate how they meet the education and experience criteria
listed in the job opportunity advertisement by providing clear and concrete examples. Clear and concrete examples are defined as illustrations in which you fully explain the actions, considerations and steps you completed in order to gain the experience you are describing. This detailed contextual information will be used by the assessment committee members reviewing your submission to assess whether you have sufficient experience in a relevant field to complete the tasks which will be assigned to you should you be considered further.

Work environment

A career with Environment and Climate Change Canada as an environmental enforcement officer is a rewarding line of work that will take you out of the office and into the heart of environmental protection.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Enforcement Branch ensures that organizations and individuals respect laws administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada that protect the natural environment, its biodiversity and the health of Canadians.
These laws aim to reduce damage and threats to the environment, its ecosystems and its biodiversity for the benefit of all Canadians and the international community. Environmental Enforcement Officers enforce the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and the pollution prevention provisions of the Fisheries Act, and their duties include:

• Conducting inspections to ensure compliance with federal environmental laws. Inspections can take place in a variety indoor or outdoor environments, including remote outdoor locations requiring access by boat, aircraft, or allterrain vehicle;
• Conducting investigations into alleged violations of federal environmental laws, including taking statements from witnesses or accused persons, preparing and executing search warrants, reviewing and assessing evidence, and preparing court briefs.
• Working with internal and external clients and stakeholders, partner law enforcement and regulatory enforcement agencies, and the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

Environmental Enforcement Officers are required to wear uniforms and carry officer safety equipment (such as: duty belt, body armour, hand cuffs, baton and prohibited weapons such as OC spray).
Environmental Enforcement Officers work in both indoor and outdoor environments, and in all climates. Enforcement Officers must be skilled communicators capable of working effectively with clients, stakeholders, and partners - sometimes in stressful and time-sensitive situations where there is danger to the environment, human life or health, when the illegal release of a regulated substance has occurred or is about to occur.

Intent of the process

Environment and Climate Change Canada will periodically access applications received as positions become available. Applicants who meet the pre-screening qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.
