This project involves the use of satellite based InSAR analysis to measure ground surface displacements on northern Canadian locales. The study will begin by focussing on identifying areas of subtle subsidence in permafrost environments possibly due to thaw or ground ice melt, highlighting areas of terrain instability. Future years may include the possibility for fieldwork in the Northwest Territories. The aim of this study is to perform a detailed evaluation of the surface behaviour of a well documented site, and relate it to another geomorphically similar site where there are landforms that resemble those of ice-rich Tuktoyaktuk Coastal Plain, but there is a lack of geological and geophysical in-situ knowledge.
